Baggage Restrictions

Please note that all conditions and liabilities mentioned in this section are only applicable on flights operated by Air Belgium under an Air Belgium flight number, with the prefix “KF” (e.g. KF205).

If you are flying with Air Belgium under a different flight number, we kindly ask you to refer to the information provided by the airline or agency through which you booked your travel.

Certain items can endanger the safety of an aircraft. That is why transporting them as hand baggage or checked baggage may be prohibited or restricted.

These items may include everyday consumer items such as batteries or certain cleaning products. Sometimes an exception can be made for passengers, provided they apply to Air Belgium for prior approval.

Prohibited on board

Prohibited in hand and checked baggage

Baggage of any kind may not contain items which are:

  • Likely to endanger the aircraft, people or property;
  • Likely to be damaged by air carriage;
  • Unsuitably packed;
  • Forbidden by any applicable law, regulation, or order of any State to be carried from, into or over its airspace;
  • Unsuitable for air carriage due to its weight, size, or nature;
  • Gas cylinders – Flammable liquids – Organic peroxides – Toxic substances – Radioactive;
  • Corrosives;
  • Explosives;
  • Flammable solids;
  • Oxidising material;
  • Infectious substances;
  • Magnetised materials;
  • Any other dangerous goods (incl. asbestos, dry ice, engines);
  • E-bike/hoverboard/segway/self-balancing wheels/ lithium-battery powered vehicles;

Prohibited in hand baggage

Your cabin baggage may not contain:

  • Fake or real guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles;
  • Substances or devices which can be used for sedation purposes;
  • Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge (e.g. scissors, pocketknives);
  • Work tools that could cause harm;
  • Blunt instruments (e.g. baseball bat);
  • Explosives and incendiary substances and devices.

Electronic devices & batteries

For safety reasons we ask our passengers to carry all large Portable Electronic Devices (PED’s) such as a tablet or laptop in the hand baggage as they contain lithium batteries which pose a fire risk. When these devices are carried in the cabin our trained cabin crew can supervise all devices and react on the situation.

If transporting portable electronic devices in the hold is necessary:

  • Your device is completely switched off and effectively protected from accidental activation. To ensure the device is never powered on during its transport, any application, alarm, or pre-set configuration that may activate it, must be disabled.
  • Your device is protected from the risk of accidental damage by applying suitable packaging or casing or by placing it in a hard case protected by adequate cushioning (e.g. clothing).
  • Your device may not be packed in the same baggage together with flammable material (e.g. perfumes, aerosols, etc.).

Lithium (-ion and metal) batteries and devices powered by lithium (-ion and metal) batteries are allowed on board depending on the watt-hour rating of the battery and the configuration (i.e. are batteries being used in equipment or as spare batteries). Batteries over 160Wh are never accepted as carry-on baggage and can only be transported as cargo.
