Please note that all conditions and liabilities mentioned in this section are only applicable on flights operated by Air Belgium under an Air Belgium flight number, with the prefix “KF” (e.g. KF205).
If you are flying with Air Belgium under a different flight number, we kindly ask you to refer to the information provided by the airline or agency through which you booked your travel.
Carry-on baggage
The following cabin baggage measurements are allowed on Air Belgium flights, depending on your travel class. Please note that the maximum weight limit and dimensions may vary depending on your destination or travel organiser (Tour Operator, Cruise lines, etc.).
Important information
- All hand baggage pieces must fit under the seat or in the overhead compartment. Pieces of hand baggage exceeding these limits must be checked in and will be subject to an excess baggage charge.
- As the stowage space in the cabin is limited, we will transport them in the hold of the aircraft if required. This is in the interest of your own and other passengers’ safety.
Hold baggage
The following hold baggage measurements are allowed on Air Belgium flights, depending on your travel class. Please note that maximum weight limit and dimensions may vary depending on your destination or travel organiser (Tour Operator, Cruise lines, etc.).
Air Belgium allows a maximum of 5 pieces per passenger to check in, but this may vary depending on your destination or travel organiser (Tour Operator, Cruise lines, etc.).
Sports equipment
You may keep small items of sports equipment, such as a deflated ball or helmet, with you in the cabin. This is included in your hand baggage allowance if it fits in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you.
Some small sports equipment is not allowed in cabin:
- Tennis racket
- Nordic walking sticks;
- Hockey sticks;
- Golf sticks;
- Skateboard;
- Step;
- Roller blades;
- Weights.
All sports equipment that exceeds cabin baggage size limits must be transported in the hold of the aircraft. Sports equipment is accepted by Air Belgium subject to certain conditions.
Equipment requiring approval
Some sports equipment is forbidden or must be approved before flying in cabin or in the hold. You may find the necessary information here below.
To register your equipment, please contact [email protected] for the following items:
- Cartridges containing non-flammable gases with no subsidiary hazard fitted into a self-inflating personal safety device such as a life jacket or vest.
- Backpacks such as the Avalanche backpack airbag (with a built-in airbag).
- Firearms and ammunition can only be booked on our flights after obtaining permission of the dangerous goods & security department. If you want to book a firearm and/or ammunition, please contact us at [email protected] and [email protected]. You will receive permission and/or information per returning mail. All transport of hunting weapons, sport rifle and ammunition must be declared no later than 10 days prior to your flight.
Forbidden equipment
- Personal motorised vehicles: Due to security restrictions and safety regulations, personal motorized vehicles such as hoverboards, Segways, electronic bikes or E-bikes, electronic scooters and self-balancing wheels are forbidden on flights due to the large lithium batteries they contain. For safety reasons, these items will not be accepted on board – either in the cabin or the hold.
- Battery-powered vehicles: These are subject to Dangerous Goods Regulations and can only be transported on our flights via our cargo division.
Music equipment
- Music instruments smaller than 115x45cm and not exceeding the weight limit of 10kg, such as a guitar or violin, are considered as standard baggage item and are included in your hand baggage allowance. In this case, you may not transport any additional hand baggage item. They must be small enough to be safely stowed in the overhead bin, or under the seat in front of you.
- If the instrument is larger than the permitted cabin baggage allowance (e.g. a cello) and you wish to carry it in the cabin, you can buy an extra seat for your instrument. The instrument must weigh no more than 50kg with a maximum dimension of 90x50x40cm. There is a limit of one extra item and one extra seat per passenger.
Transport in the hold
If the instrument exceeds the limit for cabin or extra seat, it must be transported in hold, such as drums or double bass. The maximum weight for an instrument in the hold is 32kg and the maximum length is 300cm.
- Musical instruments should be stored in hard cases with rounded edges.
- Please arrive early at the airport and allow for extra check-in time if you are travelling with a musical instrument. Then, we request that you present yourself early at the gate to notify our team and to pre-board.
- It is important that you pack your instrument carefully. All care will be taken when handling your instrument, but Air Belgium accepts no liability for any damage.
