Children & Pregnancy

Please note that all conditions and liabilities mentioned in this section are only applicable on flights operated by Air Belgium under an Air Belgium flight number, with the prefix “KF” (e.g. KF205).

If you are flying with Air Belgium under a different flight number, we kindly ask you to refer to the information provided by the airline or agency through which you booked your travel.

Travelling with your child

You may bring:

  • One piece of hand baggage OR one piece of checked baggage with baby care items up to 10 kg (55x35x25 cm – including wheels and handles).
  • One foldable buggy or one child carrier can be brought free of charge. It will be placed in the hold of the aircraft, and you may keep it with you until boarding of your flight starts.
  • For children under two, one Maxi-Cosi or car seat to be placed in overhead bin during the flight (under condition that there is enough space in the bin). If you have purchased a seat for your infant, the car seat can be placed on the seat and used during the flight, under the condition that the manufacturer approves the use on board of an aircraft.
  • Enough baby food is allowed in the hand luggage. This will be checked separately at the security checkpoint.

Unaccompanied minors

We provide a service to care for children between 5 and 12 years of age – that guarantees the safety of your child and ensures they feel well cared for and able to enjoy their flight. Children are considered to be travelling alone if they are not accompanied by a person over the age of 16.

As from their 12th birthday, a child may travel alone if their parent or legal guardian agrees. Although it is not mandatory to use an Unaccompanied Minor service.

If your child has a disability or has reduced mobility, we regret to inform that they are not permitted to travel alone.

How does it work?

Check-in

When your child is travelling alone, please arrive at the airport no later than 2 hours before his/her flight departure time. This will give plenty of time for paperwork to be completed and for the assistance to be arranged.

Please proceed to the check-in desk with your child and their baggage. The baggage will receive a special label and will be delivered first at the luggage belt upon arrival.

For security and safety reasons, online check-in is not permitted for children who are travelling alone.

Special assistance desk

Once your child is checked in, please bring them to the Special Assistance desk. As the parent or guardian, you will be asked to complete all necessary paperwork, including giving Air Belgium permission to transport the child to their destination.

Your child’s documents and passport will be placed in a special UM Pouch that needs to be always worn around the child’s neck and must remain clearly visible throughout the entire journey.

Gate

Once the paperwork has been completed, your child may proceed to the departure gate. You can choose to stay with your child up until the moment of boarding, which makes travel more pleasant for them. Otherwise, a member of the assistance crew can escort your child to the gate.

In both cases, we kindly ask you to remain at the airport until the aircraft has departed – in case of any delays or incident.

Upon arrival

Once the aircraft has landed, your child will remain on board until all passengers have disembarked. The assistance service representative will meet your child and guide them throughout the arrival process.

The assistance service representative will then meet the person who is collecting your child at destination. We kindly ask them to ensure they arrive on time at the airport.

Required documents

  • Itinerary and boarding pass;
  • Valid Passport with recent picture of your child;
  • It is important that you check the entry requirements for the destination of your child before you’re his/her departure. Make sure that the child is carrying all necessary travel documents such as visas, vaccination papers, entry documents;
  • Travel authorization from both parents legalized by official services of your residence area;
  • Full contact information for the person dropping the child off at departure;
  • Full contact information for the person authorized to collect the child upon arrival.

To save time, you can complete this form ahead of your child’s travel date, and then bring it to the airport.

Pregnancy

You can fly as usual up to your 28th week of pregnancy, if you do not have any complications or medical concerns.

After the 28th week of pregnancy and up to the 36th week, you must present a medical certificate issued within 72 hours before the time of your travel stating that you are fit to fly.
