My payment with my Bancontact / Maestro debit card was declined. Why did this happen?

To verify why your payment was declined, please verify the following points:

  • Did you exceed your Bancontact / Maestro debit card limit? In Belgium, the standard limit for payments with a Maestro debit card is generally set at EUR 2,500 per 7-day period, for all payments combined ( in-store, online and cash withdrawal). Please contact your bank if you wish to increase this limit.
    -Did you enter your Bancontact / Maestro debit card number correctly? You must enter the 17 digits of your card, its expiry date, your postal address, your email address and your telephone number.
  • Does your purchase exceed your usual spending range? Some banks block transactions due to security reasons.
  • Does the bank that issued your Bancontact / Maestro debit card have any special policies regarding electronic or Internet purchases?
