Breathtaking Beaches

At the northern end, discover beaches with turquoise water where Tec Tec – a shellfish that lives hidden in the sand – can be found. At Bain Boeuf Beach, try to catch a glimpse of the famous ‘green flash’ phenomenon that occurs when the sun disappears behind the horizon. In the south-western corner, you can bask on the fine sand of Blue Bay Beach, surrounded by colourful corals that are home to a surprising variety of exotic fish. Go for a dive around Benitiers island, a peaceful haven just 2 km long and 500 m wide. Pointe aux Piments, Turtle Bay, Trou aux Biches… Mauritius is full of scenic beaches with unforgettable names.

Fusion cuisine for any taste and any budget

Discover the exquisite delicacies Mauritius has to offer through its Michelin-starred chefs, but do try the typical street food as well! On the menu are the French, Indian, African and Chinese influences of the island, blending together to give rise to a new stunning variety of spicy curries, brianis and vindayes. You should also try the Rougaille creole style – fish or meat in a spicy tomato sauce with thyme and chilli. Arouille (a potato-like vegetable) and chilli fritters are also worth a taste. Complete your culinary journey with a house digestif, the famous ‘rhum arrangé’, a local delicacy flavoured with coconut, banana or chilli.

A cosmopolitan capital, buzzing with activity

Place d’Armes, a boulevard lined with historic statues connecting the seafront with Government House, shows off the rich history of the capital, Port Louis. Concerts and performances by local as well as international artists take place at Fort Adélaïde, providing a spectacular view of the city, the port and nearby mountains. Museums, a classic London style theatre (one of the oldest in the Indian Ocean), shopping and China Town – there is still more to discover among the innumerable attractions of the Mauritian capital. Finally, from March to December you can experience a real horse race at the Champs de Mars.

Something for Everyone

Nature

Stunning landscapes

The Dodo Trail will allow you to compete with local as well as international runners. The route crosses the highest summits of the island as well as the dense tropical rainforest of the Black River Gorges. On the agenda is a stunning view of the ocean and colourful lagoons and the unique chance to see the island’s rarest birds – the pink pigeon, or the echo parakeet, a species of parrot endemic to the island. If you’d rather explore the beautiful turquoise waters in the shade of the filao trees, you will love horse riding on one of Mauritius’ many beaches. Our tip: in the south, La Morne and Riambel beaches offer magnificent sunset hacks – absolutely not to be missed!

Exceptional courses

Mauritius has a long history of golf, being the third country in the world to discover the sport. There are 13 world-class golf courses on the island (ten 18-hole and three 9-hole), boasting exceptional facilities. Practice your swing at Heritage Golf Club, surrounded by rolling hills and a crystal clear lagoon. Alternatively, reach the green at the Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club with its naturally undulating landscape, lakes, ravines, volcanic rocks and its variety of trees and tropical plants, making your round a unique in the world golfing experience.

Lifestyle

For lovers (of wellness)

The pearl of the Indian Ocean is one of the most romantic destinations and a dream location for saying ‘I do’! Organise a wedding that is tailored just for you – why not tie the knot scuba diving or on a zip line above the forest? Romantic strolls on the beach, candlelit dinners by the ocean and adventure excursions across the incredible nature Mauritius has to offer will make it a honeymoon to remember. Wellness lovers will also be in paradise – a journey of serenity and harmony awaits in magnificent spas. Ayurvedic Asian massages or African and Creole treatments using local flowers and herbs have been inspired by the ocean and take place in the heart of nature, so that you can make the most of the wonderful setting of this island. For couples and families alike, Mauritius has something to make everyone happy.
