The secret recipe for a welcoming island

As a consequence of the Dutch Antilles' dismantling in 2010, the island of Bonaire has become a full-fledged municipality of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The island is marked by European accents, but like a prism, boasts multiple facets that you will love to discover! Asian, African and Latin influences form a rich and mixed island, a true symbol of the Caribbean. The islanders are known for their friendliness and hospitality. It will be easy for you to get in touch with them and maybe test your knowledge of Papiamentu, one of the official languages of the island.

Eco-friendly tourism

Searching for a destination that focuses on sustainable tourism? Bonaire is the place to be! The island is concerned about its environmental impact, making it the first "Blue Destination" in the world. Through this certification, Bonaire is committed to protecting its natural resources and promoting sustainable development while preserving its culture and local economy. Indeed, more than 20% of the territory and 100% of the surrounding waters are safeguarded. It is also the first Caribbean island to dispose of a protected Marine Park. Enjoy the beauty of Bonaire's scenery while respecting nature and the environment.

A burst of colours and flavours

By day or by night, Bonaire is an island on the move! Whether you are looking for flavours or atmosphere, there is something for everyone. No matter what time of year it is, you will always find a festival, carnival, music or sports event to attend and make plenty of memories.  Want to try a typical dish? In Bonaire, many of the local foods and liquors are made from cactus. Check it out! We promise, it's well worth a visit.

Something for Everyone

Sport and relaxation

An impressive dive spot

Despite its relatively small size, Bonaire is home to 22 beaches, each more beautiful than the other. Exploring its crystal clear waters is undoubtedly one of the best ways to explore the island through a variety of water sports such as sailing, kayaking, kite surfing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing and more.

While scuba diving enthusiasts will undoubtedly find unparalleled sites in Bonaire, the island is even considered a "marine sanctuary" and the best place in the Caribbean to practice this sport. To sum up, Bonaire offers 85 diving spots where you can observe more than 50 varieties of coral and 350 species of fish at depths of up to 60 metres. Finally, a sea trip may give you the chance to cross paths with wild dolphins!

Life in pink

A true natural treasure

Bonaire is packed with natural sites to visit during your trip. Various wildlife protection initiatives have created beautiful areas with unique habitats, such as the small deserted island of Klein Bonaire, the soft pink salt lakes and the 1,000-step beach (which in fact consists of only 65 steps).

Do not leave the island without a stop at Pekelmeer, a protected sanctuary for the nearly 5,000 flamingos that call it home.

Fun fact? The airport is named "Flamingo International Airport" after the island's emblem and features pink walls to match the beautiful bird.
