Small musical instruments can be carried as cabin baggage, provided they are within the cabin baggage size and weight limits.
They must be small enough to be safely stowed in the overhead locker, or under the seat in front of you.
Musical instruments smaller than 115x45cm, such as a guitar or violin, are considered a standard baggage item and so are included in your hand baggage allowance. In this case, you may not transport any additional hand baggage item.
Bigger instruments in the cabin
If the instrument is larger than the permitted cabin baggage size, for example a cello, and you wish to carry it in the cabin, you will need to buy an extra seat for your instrument, at the regular fare.
For safety reasons, this extra seat for your instrument is always a window seat.
The extra seat must be booked in advance, no later than 48 hours before your flight. Please contact our Call Center.
The extra seat for your instrument does not include any baggage allowance.
The instrument must weigh no more than 50kg with a maximum dimensions of 90 x 50 x 40cm
Instruments in the hold
If the musical instrument exceeds the limits for the cabin or for an extra seat, it must be transported in the hold. Drums or a double bass are examples of items that are carried in the hold rather than on an extra seat in the cabin.
The maximum weight for an instrument in the hold is 32kg and the maximum length is 300cm.
There is an extra fee to pay for this service. Please contact our Call Center.
- Musical instruments should be stored in hard cases with rounded edges.
- Please arrive early at the airport and allow for extra check-in time if you are travelling with a musical instrument. Then, we request that you present yourself early at the gate in order to notify our team and to be pre-boarded.
- It is important that you pack your instrument carefully. All care will be taken when handling your instrument, but Air Belgium accepts no liability for any damage.
